Sectors of Activities

iMMAP provides information management services across three key sectors:

Disaster Risk Management

iMMAP develops tools and methods for risk assessment and analysis which enable the identification of natural or man-made hazards, and the vulnerabilities of the populations and resources present. This information is then used to guide the implementation of:

  • Emergency preparedness, hazard mitigation and resilience activities
  • Early warning systems for drought, food security crises, and epidemics
  • Mine clearance programs
  • Reconstruction of infrastructure following natural or man-made disasters

Decision-makers in the development sector must base their strategic and operational decisions on reliable social, economic and environmental information. IMMAP uses its technical experience acquired in emergency and resilience contexts to enable evidence-based development projects through activities including the following:

  • Develop decision-making tools based on data collection and analysis
  • Support post-conflict and early recovery / resilience development
  • Provide reliable social, economic and environmental information
  • Deploy Geographic Information Systems (GIS) for spatial planning
  • Propose technical solutions adapted to local contexts, capacities and budgets
  • Build sustainable capacity within local government and development agencies

Emergency Response

In an emergency, iMMAP rapidly deploys information management experts to support the implementation of response activities. Support is provided to governments, UN agencies, and implementing partners, to accomplish the following:

  • Develop and maintain emergency situational awareness
  • Conduct assessments to identify vulnerable populations and their needs
  • Coordinate and facilitate response efforts
  • Provide Humanitarian Access and Risk Mitigation services
  • Monitor and evaluate activities and outcomes
  • Build information management capacity
