Since 2003, iMMAP has worked to establish a common operating picture (COP) for Humanitarian Mine Action (HMA) in Iraq. We work with the Iraqi government and its partners to build the capacity to manage landmine and explosive remnants of war (ERW) mitigation activities. With support from the U.S. Department of State’s Office of Weapons Removal and Abatement (PM/WRA), we help partners to identify and prioritize which areas are in greatest need of assistance and improve coordination efforts by tracking who is doing what and where.
iMMAP provides ongoing technical support to the Iraqi government and its partners to establish a common operating picture (COP) to effectively task and manage landmine and ERW mitigation activities. iMMAP focuses on improving the capacity of national staff so they can provide better services to the HMA community which helps to more efficiently and effectively reduce ERW hazards in Iraq.
iMMAPs’ Information Management System for Mine Action (IMSMA) and geographic information system (GIS) technical expertise supports the Directorate of Mine Action Iraq (DMA) and Iraqi Kurdistan Mine Action Authority (IKMAA) to develop and maintain a reliable information management cell to produce maps and reports for land-mine and ERW planning, prioritization and clearance activities. Our custom built IMSMA and IMSMANG add-on tools as well is our open source information management Mine Action Analysis Toolkit (MAAT) help HMA responders fill information gaps in humanitarian operations
iMMAP deployed SBPP staff in Erbil (Iraq) in 2015, to support the health information management system of WHO in the country. The staff helped with information management of the cholera related epidemic, update of the Health Resources Availability Mapping System (HeRAMS) and Early Warning Alert and Response Network - EWARN system, development of standardized data management processes, generation of statistical analyses and reports.
Currently the iMMAP staff have been assisting with the creation of info-graphics, daily analysis for the Mosul operation undertaken by the Iraqi Security Forces (ISF), and are currently working with Arc Server and Enterprise to create a dynamic online mapping system for WHO in Iraq.
