iMMAP deployed to Armenia during summer 2002 to conduct an initial assessment of landmine and unexploded ordnance (UXO) contamination there, and to determine local capacity for survey implementation. Based upon this reconnaissance, iMMAP provided training for Armenian Humanitarian Demining Center (AHDC) national staff. The training imparted basic capabilities necessary for conduct of a full Landmine Impact Survey of Armenia.

In 2004 the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) and the Armenian Ministry of Defense initiated a three-year project to address critical areas of Humanitarian Mine Action in Armenia. iMMAP, under contract to RONCO Consulting Corporation and with funding from the U.S. Department of State's Office of Weapons Removal and Abatement, provided training and technical adviser support to guide Armenian planning and implementation of the national Landmine Impact Survey.

Of note, iMMAP deployed senior members of its Iraq Landmine Impact Survey team to Armenia to train the Armenian survey staff, and share with them the valuable lessons they learned in the challenging Iraq project. Some of these same Iraqi staff members have gone on to lead the landmine survey work in the Democratic Republic of Congo and to work with the United Nations in other locations. iMMAP training and capacity building works!
