Mr. Yewondwossen Assefa is an Information Management Officer with extensive experience in the humanitarian context. He currently works with IMMAP assigned to OCHA Ethiopia in support of Early Warnings initiatives as well as general IM support within OCHA.
Before joining iMMAP, he worked for two years with OCHA Nigeria as part of the information management unit responding to the North-east crisis. He also worked in Sierra Leone as part of the UNMEER and WHO teams during the Ebola crisis in 2014 and 2015. During that time, he contributed to strengthening the information management capacity in Sierra Leone by training almost six hundred people in government and universities on QGIS, ODK and information management tools. He was officially recognized by the government for his contributions.
Mr. Assefa also worked for one year at Global Facility for Disaster Reduction and Recovery/World Bank as part of Innovation Lab team, supporting mainly the South-East Asia section through providing technical support to capacity building in project implementation for disaster preparedness. He is a charter member of FOSS4G since 2007 and contributed to the MapServer community as a core developer.
He holds a bachelor’s degree in Computer Management and an MBA in Information Systems Management from Laval University in Quebec, Canada.
