The training focused on the utilization of existing mobile based data collection systems and information management skills to improve the quality of information and its flow across the DRMB offices, while enabling the officers to improve their daily activities in visualizing early warning and response data. The training covered topics on ODK data collection, data analysis and visualization using Microsoft Excel and QGIS software for basic mapping.\n\nThe training, attended by 29 participants from different administration levels of the DRMB of Somali region, included an opening remark from Mr. Abdelfattah Mohammed, deputy head of DRMB. Data Visualization Support to the COVID-19 Response\n\nIn Afghanistan, iMMAP is supporting the COVID-19 response by visualizing data to provide the WASH, Health, and Nutrition Clusters with overviews of their coverage. \n\nThe District Coverage Overview map is based on the COVID-19 Multi-Sector Humanitarian Country Plan for Afghanistan, which outlines the strategic response approach to the outbreak for the next three months (April-June 2020). In Colombia, many refugees and migrants dwell in informal settlements built within impoverished areas. The work of iMMAP and its partners, Thinking Machines and Premise, is facilitating the detection and profiling of key settlements throughout the country, aiming to identify vulnerable areas where the actors responding to the COVID-19 outbreak can concentrate their on Mobile Data Collection and Open Street Maps Training\n\nThe OpenStreetMap (OSM) DRC community responded effectively during the Ebola 2018 outbreak by mobilizing OSM contributors to digitize buildings, roads, and rivers, which were then made publicly available through HDX. Methodologies proposed were all-inclusive, based on knowledge exchange and a participatory approach in collaboration with private partners, traditional practitioners, and DPS and BCZ, the health provincial and district central offices, respectively.\n\nIn the field, NGOs, the United Nations, and the ministry staff relied upon the OSM base map, or the OSMAND navigation tool, to identify buildings. 3,134 points, schools, villages, markets, and churches have been integrated into the OSM platform during the OSM training. Furthermore, 3,586 health structures have been cleaned and added to the OSM base. Support for the Health Sector\n\niMMAP’s Health Sector information management officer (IMO) is actively maintaining a daily database of confirmed cases, active cases, discharged cases and deaths across Nigeria to analyze trends. In addition, COVID-19 Risk Maps have been produced for Yobe state to assist in the planning of the response to the pandemic, with similar assessments for other BAY states ongoing.\n\nMultisectoral Support to the COVID-19 Response\n\nIn response to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Food Security Sector (FSS) IMO has been actively supporting the FSS team to establish guidelines for the sector’s partners COVID-19 response. This includes establishing a COVID-19 task force on the various subsectors under FSS such as Food Assistance, Remote Monitoring, and Agricultural Livelihoods. The sector IMO has also been working with partners to provide an accurate picture of who is doing what, where, and to whom, as well as acting as a liaison to other sectors – including the WASH sector – to implement a collaborative approach in camps during this pandemic.\n\niMMAP’s WASH sector IMO is closely working with partners to develop an adaptive continuity plan that establishes procedures for scenarios such as restriction of movement. Other activities in response to the COVID-19 pandemic involve the development of IM systems for partners to report COVID-19 activities, report gaps in the availability of hygiene enhancers, and track hygiene levels in health facilities. Proving iMMAP’s commitment to raising local capabilities to improve the humanitarian response, 30% of the participants were representing national NGOs. Since then, the protection cluster has made remarkable achievements and progress on information management functions. Now, for the first time in the cluster, iMMAP information management officers (IMOs) have developed a harmonized and simplified 5Ws (who’s doing what, where, when and for whom) response monitoring tool, establishing an effective information collection system that will support the cluster coordination. \n\nThe IMOs systematically collect, collate and analyze protection data to produce various information management (IM) products, such as operational presence maps, site management support and a cluster dashboard showing progress against the Humanitarian Response Plan (HRP), among others. These products have enhanced the coordination, improved the response monitoring and supported informed decision making by the protection cluster partners and stakeholders. \n\nIn a bid to maximize the operationalization of the IM tools and products, iMMAP IMOs also implemented and delivered information management training to cluster partners in November 2019. The objective of the training was to improve partners’ skills in emergency data management and to increase the utilization of cluster-specific IM tools. This initiative has increased the consistency and quality of information obtained from partners responding to protection needs.\n\nFurthermore, iMMAP IMOs are also proactively participating in several assessment initiatives by designing questionnaires, developing web forms and conducting training for data collectors on the usage of these tools.
