iMMAP Ethiopia Contributes to the Humanitarian Needs Overview 2020
iMMAP is playing a crucial role in the Humanitarian Needs Overview and Humanitarian Response Plan by collecting, analyzing and reporting data that help set the goals and evaluate the achievements of the humanitarian clusters.

Since June 2018, iMMAP has been providing information management support to five humanitarian clusters: Agriculture, Health, Shelter/Non-Food Items, Protection, and Coordination.
Led by UNOCHA, the second-ever Ethiopia Humanitarian Needs Overview (HNO) was produced and recently launched, providing the humanitarian community with an enhanced understanding of the humanitarian situation in the country, as well as providing evidence-based analysis to help systematically estimate the people in need in 2020.
The 2020 HNO emphasizes on:
• Jointly agreeing on the scope of analysis and conducting inter-sectoral analysis
• Identifying the current humanitarian consequences of the crisis and their evolution
• Selecting priority population groups (including sub-groups) and geographic areas identified as most vulnerable
• Projecting current humanitarian consequences and needs based on risk, vulnerabilities, and capacities
• Monitoring the situations, needs and response continuously

In this context, iMMAP Information management officers (IMOs) have played a crucial role during the last few months as part of the development of the 2020 HNO. In collaboration with cluster coordinators and partners, our IMOs have contributed to the following activities:
• Identifying the most important indicators that can be used in each of the humanitarian clusters to evaluate the severity of the crisis and the needs of the population
• Collecting, analyzing and sharing data on these indicators as well as conducting qualitative analysis on the cluster needs
• Identifying all inter-cluster indicators
• Participating and contributing to the HNO validation workshop in all respective clusters
• Conducting People in Need (PiN) calculation to support clusters
• Drafting the cluster HNO narratives
• Identifying the most important indicators that can be used in each of the humanitarian clusters to evaluate the severity of the crisis and the needs of the population

iMMAP presence at one HNO meeting
The Humanitarian Response Plan (HRP) that follows the HNO, identifies the number of people that will be targeted in 2020, the activities that clusters partners are planning to carry, and the cost associated with the response.
As with the HNO, IMMAP IMOs played an important role in the HRP process by:
• Identifying and calculating the most vulnerable people for targeting
• Establishing the indicators that will be used to monitor the response in 2020
• Participating in drafting the cluster HRP narratives

Funded by USAID, iMMAP is providing essential support to the humanitarian clusters to accomplish the HNO/HRP process. Our IMOs are playing a crucial role in this process through collecting, analyzing and reporting data that help to set the goals and evaluate the achievements in their respective clusters.
