iMMAP Mourns the Passing of Brian Finlay
It is with profound sadness that iMMAP announces the passing of Brian Finlay on June 3, 2026, following a courageous battle with cancer.
Brian was a distinguished leader, humanitarian advocate, and longtime friend of iMMAP. As one of iMMAP’s earliest Board Directors and later Chairman Emeritus of the Board of Directors, Brian played a pivotal role in shaping the organization’s growth, vision, and impact over more than two decades.
Throughout his service to iMMAP, Brian brought exceptional leadership, intellectual rigor, and an unwavering commitment to advancing humanitarian action and improving lives around the world. His guidance, support, and belief in the power of information and data to strengthen humanitarian decision-making helped establish the foundation upon which iMMAP continues its work today.
Beyond his professional achievements, Brian was known for his humility, compassion, integrity, and remarkable sense of humor. He was a trusted colleague, mentor, and friend to many across the humanitarian and policy communities. His dedication to public service and his commitment to humanity left a lasting impression on all who had the privilege of working alongside him.
Reflecting on Brian’s legacy, Leslie Hinkson, Chair of the iMMAP Board of Directors, stated:
"Brian exemplified what it means to be a true leader—brave, empathetic, and intellectually gifted, with a deep commitment to humanity. The iMMAP Board mourns the loss of a colleague, friend, and champion. His contributions to our organization and to the broader humanitarian community will continue to inspire us for years to come."
The entire iMMAP family joins Brian’s family, friends, colleagues, and the Stimson Center community in mourning this tremendous loss. We extend our deepest condolences to all who knew and loved him.
Brian’s legacy will endure through the countless lives he touched, the institutions he strengthened, and the values of service, compassion, and leadership that he embodied throughout his life.
He will be deeply missed.
