iMMAP Attends ENGAGE 2022 Conference Hosted by Maxar

iMMAP recently attended the ENGAGE 2022 conference hosted by Maxar in Cascais, Portugal. The two-day event took place on June 14-15th, 2022, with the theme of ´Unleashing the Disruptive Value of Space´, aiming to leverage space capabilities and space-derived information to enable smarter decisions.

iMMAP recently attended the ENGAGE 2022 conference hosted by Maxar in Cascais, Portugal. The two-day event took place on June 14-15th, 2022, with the theme of ´Unleashing the Disruptive Value of Space´, aiming to leverage space capabilities and space-derived information to enable smarter decisions.

This year, the event hosted 374 participants from over 30 countries with 55 speakers, bringing together representatives from sectors including, defense, civil government, telecommunications, automotive, space agencies, global development, entrepreneurs, think tanks, and humanitarian aid. The key areas of focus were safety, security and defense, national space programs, mobility, energy, financial technology, technology and location-based services, sustainability, and humanitarian.

The organizations that took part included but not limited to NATO, Amazon Web Services, Euroconsult, TomTom, EU Satellite Centre, GEOSAT, Portuguese Space Agency. Presentations and lightning talks touched on an array of topics from harnessing earth observation impacts for environment and sustainability, using remote sensing and satellite imagery to detect migration flows, translating imagery to information in response to humanitarian crises to applying Artificial Intelligence (AI) approaches to rapid damage assessments resulting natural disasters.

iMMAP met with the Director General of UNOSAT, key individuals from Maxar, Geocento, L3HARRIS, European Space Imaging as well as representatives of various academic institutions to discuss the latest developments in space technology, remote sensing, the use of AI technologies and how they can be applied to the humanitarian and development contexts.

The ENGAGE 2022 conference was a great platform to understand the latest developments in space technologies. Our team met with representatives from various organizations who are interested in collaborating with iMMAP to provide services for humanitarian and development programs on a global scale.
