iMMAP Nigeria Holds its Annual Technical Review Workshop for 2019/2020
Providing Information Management Support to Humanitarian Sectors in Their Response to the Northeast Nigeria Crisis

iMMAP Nigeria held its three-day annual Technical Review Workshop from September 16th to 18th, 2020. Since November 2016, iMMAP has been deploying information management officers (IMOs) to support humanitarian sectors and partners with information management expertise in their response to the crisis in northeast Nigeria.
The event was chaired by the iMMAP Nigeria Country Representative, Ghada Hatim, who delivered opening remarks. Among the attendees for the workshop were representatives from USAID, the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), and the Nigeria INGO Forum who made significant contributions during the event with questions, comments, and suggestions. William Barron, iMMAP’s CEO, participated in the first day session where he delivered the closing remarks by recalling the inception of iMMAP in Nigeria, and how the support has continued to evolve and ceaselessly delivered high-quality information management services for a better humanitarian response.

The second day took a thematic approach and focused on humanitarian sectors. IMOs made presentations on their respective sectors and sub-sectors including Early Recovery and Livelihoods, Nutrition, Food Security, Health, WASH, CCCM & Shelter/NFI, Education, Child Protection, Gender-Based Violence, and the Cash Working Group. These presentations provided insight into the sectoral support activities implemented throughout the review period and the accomplishments and challenges faced. Furthermore, iMMAP´s senior capacity building officer provided an overview of the accomplishments and the outlook for the capacity building program in Nigeria for the year ahead.
The day was finalized by iMMAP’s operations director, Abdon Trowonou. In his closing remarks, he expressed a sense of pride at the volume and quality of the work each IMO has been able to achieve over the past year despite the challenges faced as a result of the global COVID-19 pandemic. He thanked all iMMAP personnel, both past and present, for their efforts in keeping the torch lit.

The workshop concluded on day three with a series of interactive strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, threats (SWOT) analysis sessions led by the monitoring and evaluation team. The exercise aimed to gather SWOT feedback that will feed into the contribution analysis. The analysis will then form the basis for an evaluation report that will shape operational and programming priority areas using lessons learnt for the upcoming year.
In her closing remarks, the Country Representative, Ghada Hatim, thanked all participants for their contributions. As she praised the accomplishments of all iMMAP Nigeria personnel and their dedication to the highest standards. She passionately reminded everyone to put the needs of the crisis-affected individuals at the forefront when carrying out their jobs.

We must never allow ourselves to think of the numbers as just statistics, but rather as people with important and at times severe needs, and each with their individual stories.
