Getinet Tafese is an information management analyst based in Ethiopia. He is tasked with working closely with the IMO to produce and deliver IM products and services that are both timely and of high quality.
Getinet boasts over 12 years of professional experience in GIS and Remote Sensing (RS). Before joining iMMAP Inc., he served as an assistant researcher (GIS and RS) at Armauer Hansen Research Institute (AHRI) for two years and as a senior teaching assistant for GIS and Remote Sensing at Jimma University in Ethiopia for three years. Before that, he held positions ranging from junior to senior levels in GIS and RS at different government institutions. He focused on cadastral surveying and mapping, land use planning, and watershed development for seven years after earning his BSc.
Getinet obtained his degree in Geoinformatics from Adama University in July 2009, he now has a Master's Degree in Geoinformatics (GIS, RS, and Data Science) from the Faculty of Geoinformation Science and Earth Observation at the University of Twente-ITC in the Netherlands. In addition to his native language, Afaan Oromoo, he is also proficient in English and Amharic at a C2 level and has basic knowledge (A1) of the Dutch language.
