Suleiman Nyamwaya is the Humanitarian Mine Action Coordinator for Northeast Syria. As part of that role, he represents iMMAP supporting a coordinated approach to Mine Action operations by coordinating needs assessment, gap analysis, and prioritization of response requirements. He is also in charge of the planning and strategy development, advocacy, and capacity building.
Suleiman worked for UNMAS for thirteen years, initially as an Operations and Quality Assurance Officer and finally as the Chief of Operations for the Darfur Mine Action Program in Sudan. Prior to joining UNMAS, served in the Kenya Defense Forces as a commissioned officer in the Corps of Engineers where he held various command and staff appointments. He took early retirement at the rank of lieutenant colonel while serving as a Directing Staff at the Kenya Defense Command and Staff College.
He holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Civil Engineering from the Military College of Engineering in Pakistan, and a Master of Arts Degree in Disaster Management from the University of Nairobi Kenya.
